I'm grateful for Sundays. They give me a chance to recharge and be ready for the stress and excitement of a new week.
I got called to be the young women's secretary a few weeks ago and was worried at first at how I would be. It has been fun so far. It feels a little funny to be in there, I still feel young and like it was yesterday that I was in there myself! :) I'm still figuring out my role exactly but I love the ladies I work with and the girls have been sweet.
I was able to teach today and was surprised that I wasn't a nervous wreck until right before I went up to teach. I think teaching in primary helped ease my teaching nerves just a bit. Teaching in primary also taught me how much I can learn from studying a lesson and sharing it with others. I think the lesson went ok. I got asked to teach last minute so I didn't have a lot of time to prepare but I think it went well for the amount of time I put into preparing. This month was on Christlike Attributes and I chose to focus on being Christlike in our service to others. It was just what my heart needed to hear.
A lot of my lesson came from a talk given by Sister Cheryl A. Esplin in April 2016. I loved a part that She quoted Sondra D. Heaston who said,
"What if we could really see into each other's hearts? Would we understand each other better? By feeling what others feel, seeing what others see, and hearing what other's hear, would we make, and take, the time to serve others, and would we treat them differently? Would we treat them with more patience, more kindness, and more tolerance."
I used an object lesson also found in Sister Esplin's talk. I asked one of the beehives to tell me about her weekend and just as she started talking I held up a mirror in front of me the entire time she talked. After the object lesson we talked about how important it is to focus on others and not on ourselves when serving. As I prepared this lesson I thought about the Savior and his example to us in serving others. He always served out of love and had his focus on others. Thinking about this I was reminded of a time in high school when I was going through a rough time (for a teenager) and was pretty sad and down. After days and days of having a pity part for myself and being sad, one morning before school my mom came into my room and said, "Holly I want you to serve someone today." She talked to me about how serving someone and focusing on their needs would help me to feel better. She was completely right. When we take the time to think of others we stop focusing so much on ourselves. Its something I always need to be reminded of and improve. I'm grateful for these reminders Heavenly Father gives me of things I need to improve and do better at.
The leaves are continuing to fall off all the trees in the neighborhood. Its a bittersweet thing seeing the leaves change. I love the colors but know as the colors get brighter the sooner it will be that they'll fall off. Soon the trees will be bare! I took the pictures below the other morning. The sun was shining through the tree so perfectly I just had to stop and take some pictures.
This week is going to be pretty busy. We've got a member missionary lesson with the sisters and Jones family tomorrow, temple on Tuesday, ward Halloween party on Wednesday (YW and YM are in charge), and whatever else comes up in between. :) I was asked to participate in the relief society Christmas dinner in a few weeks and have a script I need to finish so hopefully I can get that done in the next day or so.
It should be an eventful week!
Last but not least, I wanted to make sure and document some of the highlights from this past week/weekend...
Suzanne and Lee had their baby late Wednesday (October 19th) night! Olivia Rose Anderson. She's so precious and I'm so sad that we are so far away and can't snuggle her! They sent a sweet picture of Evenly softly putting her hand on Olivia as she was laying down. Oh my heart. I just love my nieces and nephews so much! I can't wait till we get to meet this sweet baby, hopefully its not too long! Katherine is going to be induced November 4th so it won't be much longer that we get another niece again!
Bummer moment of the week...We found out Friday afternoon that Kevin did not get the job. Major bummer even though we were kinda thinking it was what was going to happen...still makes it hard. :/ We spent this weekend thinking and praying and talking about the different options we have now. We haven't made any decisions yet but hopefully by the end of this week we'll have a better idea of what are plans are. I'm grateful for prayer and for the power of the Atonement. I know that peace can come from prayer, humbling ourselves and recognizing that our Savior knows what we are feeling and going through. We are never alone in our times of need. I'm also grateful for Kevin and the strength he is to me. He's amazing.
Friday morning I was able to skype with Saraiah for awhile and that was such a tender mercy for me. I miss living so close to my sweet friend and I'm so grateful for modern technology that helps us get to chat face to face. :) She always knows just what to say to lift my spirits!
Kevin and I took Kayleen, Jackson and Kiera to the park on Friday while Arianna picked Jacob up from school. Its always nice to get some fresh air and watch the kids have fun running around. I met a really nice mom there and felt like Arianna being so friendly to a random stranger. :)
Arianna had the kids pick leaves a couple weeks ago and then Friday afternoon she had them do a fun painting activity with them. It was cute to watch them be artistic. All three big kiddos had so much fun. After the painting fun Anna had them make each other's mummies by wrapping them in toilet paper. It was so cute how fun they thought it was. :)
And finally a picture from Saturday of this cute girl and her messy face after eating an oreo. Saturday night the Knowles family came over and we played this dice game they taught us that Kevin has become obsessed with. We played for a while and then they guys went and played x-box while the ladies got to paint our finger nails. My nails were in desperate need of a new color! :)
It was a great weekend. I can't wait to see how this busy week goes! I'm excited to go to the temple in St. Paul with Kevin and to see how the ward Halloween party goes. Everyone in the ward says its always the biggest party of the year so it should be a good one! :)
