This semester I got two new visiting teachers that are AMAZING! One of them I know from high school and the other one is a complex manager also so I've seen her at all the meetings I have to go to each month.
I was so excited to find out that they were my new visiting teachers. I've only been visited a handful of times since we've lived in Rexburg and was excited to finally have ladies that I know will come visit me each month. :)
Since living in this ward I've gained a much stronger testimony of visiting teaching. I remember being single in college and dreading having to go visiting teaching sometimes. I always felt awkward and weird going to visit these girls that I new nothing about.
It wasn't until this ward that I really came to understand the importance of visiting teaching and the amazing blessings that come from it. One major blessings I've seen is how many amazing people I've been able to meet through visiting teaching.
My very first companion I got in this ward has become one of my best friends. She is a huge reason that I go visiting teaching now. She showed me how important it was to go each month to visit our girls. She showed me that you don't have to have a million things in common with someone to be able to visit them. I am so grateful for her and the example she is to me. We were companions for two semesters and then both got switched to new companions.
I was really sad not to have her as my companion anymore and scared that I wasn't going to get along as well with my new companion. Luckily the Lord knew exactly who to put me with. :) My new companion that I have now is AMAZING! Visiting teaching has become even more fun. She is so funny and easy going. She makes everyone around her feel comfortable and makes sure that nobody feels left out.
I'm grateful for the friendships I've been able to make through visiting teaching. Going to relief society has become something that I look forward to so much because I get to visit with all these amazing women! :)
Another major blessing I've found through visiting teaching is the opportunity it has given me to grow my testimony as I hear others share theirs and as I share mine.
I found that as I understood more the importance of visiting teaching my testimony grew immensely. I started to care more about the girls I was visiting. I wanted to prepare more for the visits. I looked forward to sharing what I had learned with them.
This month the visiting teaching message is "The Divine Mission of Jesus Christ: Exemplar." In one part it quotes President Uchtdorf saying, "You wonderful sisters render compassionate service to others for reasons that supersede desires for personal benefits. In this you emulate the Savior....His thoughts were always tuned to help others." When we can truly see others through Christ's eyes we desire to serve and help them. I know that visiting teaching gives us that opportunity to see others as Christ sees and loves them.We don't just go visit them so we can tell our supervisor we did our visits for this month, we desire to visit with them and help support them.
I am so grateful for visiting teaching and the testimony I've gained for it over the past year. I love all the women I've been able to meet and I look forward to many many many more years of meeting more amazing ladies. I LOVE VISITING TEACHING! :)
