Kevin didn't have class yesterday since it was a holiday and no one else on the maintenance crew was going to work so Kevin decided to take the day off as well. I decided to close my office for the day so we could spend some time together. (best decision EVER!)
We had a REALLY fun active day. In the morning Kevin played basketball while I walked around the I-center track with my friend Janae. We were there for about an hour and a half so we both got some pretty good exercise.
We lounged around for a couple hours after that and then around 2:30 we headed to go fat biking with a couple we've become really good friends with in our ward.
I had seen the fat bikes at the ORC before but never thought I would ride one. They look like regular bikes except they have ginormous tires instead of little tires. The bikes are used to ride in the snow, sand, and anywhere else you want to but they make riding in snow a lot easier (and more fun).
Here is a picture while we were waiting at the ORC for our friend to get off work so we could go riding. This was my "oh my goodness what am I getting myself into" face with my new purple hat we bought over the weekend :) :
We biked up the temple hill and road over to our old church house where there are some old fields and trails you can ride on. These pictures are when we first got to the field and before we started riding down the snowy trails (so we still looked semi-nice and normal):
It was SO much fun. I was terrified at first to go down any of the trails. Even with the huge tires the snow was still pretty slick to ride on. Kevin is super good and made everything look really easy. I'm not the most adventurous type but I tried really hard to stay on the bike.
Once we got lower down on the trail the snow started getting super deep. Each time I fell over I would fall into 3 feet of snow. haha. It was really funny to watch everyone dive down into the snow as they went crashing down with their bike.
After we finished the trail we headed back to the ORC to return the bikes. We biked for about 2 hours. All of us were exhausted when we got done. It was a really good work out, and super fun. Hopefully we will be able to go again sometime before the snow all melts (which for Rexburg is like JUNE!....rude.)
Funny little story...We got back to the ORC we parked our bikes and went to check back in. Then we all went to grab our bikes to put them away. As I stepped next to me bike an icicle that was hanging from the stadium (WAY UP HIGH!) fell down and hit me on the head! It hurt really bad at first but it wasn't a very big icicle and I was still wearing my hat so it didn't leave a mark. Now I can say I've been hit by an icicle fall from the sky!
Definitely a day to remember.

Who's excited to fat bike? WE ARE!
Gotta love the tongue picture:)
If you squint and look reallllllly close you can see one of the tetons.

Reading that makes me want to get a huge blanket, a mug of hot chocolate, and fall asleep on the couch while watching a movie. Brrrr. Did you have snow-pants on? Cute purple hat!
ReplyDeleteKevin carried my snow pants in the back pack in case I needed them but I never ended up putting them on. I probably should have since I fell in the snow every time I got on the bike. Haha. :)
ReplyDeleteHey guess what?!? I can comment! YAY! You guys look like you had a great day. I would have spent a whole lot of time diving into the snow and not on the bike! :}
