This weekend was our Stake Conference. We didn't make it to the Saturday session but we were able to attend the Sunday session. It was FABULOUS! I love our stake presidency. All the speakers were really good. The speakers all talked about finding happiness and temples. Its always such a good reminder about how important it is to have the spirit in our homes just like the spirit in the temple.
Our stake president talked about principles that help strengthen a marriage. He read from Moroni 7:45,
"And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things."
He went through each principle in the verse and talked about how it can help strengthen any marriage and home. I've been taught these principles throughout my whole life and reminded about how important it is to practice them daily in my marriage and to everyone around me. But no matter how many times my ears have heard it my heart always needs the reminder.
Our stake president talked about how important it is that we establish these principles and righteous patterns in our lives and homes now while we are in Rexburg. He quoted President Hinckley who said, "It is better to be kind than right." I thought about how many times I have argued to Kevin and not been kind just so I could be right. I've let my pride get in the way of an opportunity to show love and kindness to my spouse. I need to do better at having that kindness in my heart ALWAYS.
Sometimes its hard to not get distracted by how stressful work and school get. I allow those distractions to be my excuse for not being a better wife or friend. I have to stop making those excuses and just do better. Why should I not want to show love towards someone?
Our stake president ended by saying that we each need to be working towards having a marriage and home where the true love of Christ is felt and shared. What a great goal that is.
I know that as I work harder at the principles found in Moroni 7 Kevin and I can become more unified together and with our Heavenly Father and Savior. By establishing those principles in our home we set a firm foundation for our children to grow and learn in. We allow others the opportunity to learn and grow as well as they are in our home. I feel such a greater responsibility to keep my home with a spirit that helps not only me but all those who enter it.
Until next time...
Holly
